6C: Equity by Design: Embedding Trauma-Informed Approaches in Competency-Based Education

Educational equity has been identified as a critical priority for nursing. Transitioning to competency-based education provides the ideal opportunity to shift from traditional educational practices, often trauma-producing and oppressive for faculty and students. Embedding Trauma-Informed approaches in competency-based education provide a framework for interrupting inequitable practices and policies in academia and centering equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive pedagogy.
