5F: Tension in the Ivory Tower: Preventing and Addressing Student Incivility

Thursday, September 19 | 2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.

Academic incivility negatively disrupts the learning environment. Examples of student incivility include openly challenging faculty, mobbing faculty and classmates online, and demanding they are ‘owed’ a grade. Incivility adversely impacts the academic and clinical environment, potentially putting patients and colleagues at risk. This session highlights best practices to prevent and address challenging student behaviors ranging from incivility to potentially violent behaviors.
