8J: Explore Your Program’s Readiness for Healthcare Simulation Standards Endorsement™

Friday, September 20 | 2:30 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.

Since 2011, the original International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards of Best Practice: Simulation and newly introduced Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice™ (2021, HSSOBP™) have served as guidelines informing high-quality simulation-based education experiences in academic and practice settings. Recognized aspirational goals for simulation programs to achieve, each Standard offers novice and expert simulationists and simulation operations specialists across the globe opportunities to implement processes essential to evaluating, improving, and growing a simulation-based education program that impacts not only individual practice behaviors but has potential to improve patient care. Responding to the simulation community, INACSL identified four core Standards critical to best practices for learner centered: high-quality simulation as 1) Prebriefing, 2) Facilitation, 3) Professional Integrity, and 4) Debriefing. When synergistically scaffolded and immersed into the curricula of a simulation program, healthcare education will continue to improve and evolve to create a program based on best practices. Seeing the need to recognize healthcare institutions, practices, and programs, in 2021, INACSL established an Endorsement Program to recognize programs demonstrating excellence in application of the core four HSSOBP™. This presentation will offer a history of how the INACSL Standards of Best Practice offered the critical foundation for establishing the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards Endorsement™. Additionally, learners will gain valuable understanding of the endorsement application process.
