10J: Bring Competency-Based Education to life through Simulation
Friday, September 20 | 4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
Nursing Education is in a paradigm shift from a focus on curriculum structures and processes that drive teaching and learning to now one of competencies. Simulation and experiential learning will be powerful teaching tools in defining the path towards competency-based education (CBE). This session will engage participants to explore the concept of competency-based education by actively achieving a competency during the session. Participants will align benchmarks, milestones, and formative assessments to simulation activities that support learner development in building competency. The focus of this session aims to 1. Engage attendees to view the shift of competency-based education from both a learner and educator lens and 2. Facilitate a dialogue that acknowledges learner and educator challenges, alike and 3. inspire a pathway utilizing simulation-based strategies that build toward a competency-based trajectory.
