3C: Caring in the Midst of the Storm: Faculty Respond to Hurricane Helene
Thursday, September 24 | 8:15 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Hurricane Helene struck western NC in Sept 2024, causing severe impacts and disrupting university functions. Nursing faculty applied Swanson’s Theory of Caring to assess student needs, provide resources, and measure readiness to resume classes. Surveys (n=109) revealed strengths and concerns. Student readiness to return scores by program averaged 6.9–8.0. SCT guided effective disaster response and contributed to healing.
