4J: The Art of the Agency Meeting: Public Policy’s Most Underrated Skill

This session explores effective strategies for advancing your policy agenda by engaging directly with executive branch agencies in addition to—rather than exclusively through—legislative channels. Drawing from firsthand experiences with federal agencies such as the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), we will share practical insights into preparing for, navigating, and maximizing agency meetings. The session will also highlight our collaborative work with the Nursing Community Coalition and outline approaches for building strong partnerships that elevate nursing priorities and strengthen public policy impact
